3.2. Installation environment
IMPORTANT: Please do not install the ST2020 intercom using any of the methods listed below. If installing the device indoors, please keep the device at least 2 metres away from lighting fixtures, and at least 3 metres away from a window or glass door that has direct or indirect sunlight.
3.2.1. Backlight
Backlight is a common lighting condition that occurs when the primary light source is behind the subject being captured. This can result in the subject being underexposed or appearing as a silhouette, as the camera struggles to balance the brightness of the background with the subject in the foreground.
In the case of intercoms with cameras, backlight can be a common issue when the camera is positioned in front of a bright light source, such as a window or a bright outdoor environment. To avoid backlight issues, it is recommended to position the camera so that the primary light source is behind the camera.
3.2.2. Direct or indirect sunlight
Direct sunlight can lead to overexposure in the camera, which may result in poor image quality or even damage to the camera's sensor.
Additionally, prolonged exposure to direct or indirect sunlight can cause the camera to overheat, leading to device malfunction or failure.
Therefore, it is recommended to install the intercom in a shaded area. This will help to ensure that the camera functions correctly and provides clear, high-quality images at all times.
3.2.3. Privacy
NOTE: When installing the intercom, it is important to ensure that the camera is positioned in a way that it does not capture public spaces. This means that the camera should only capture the intended area, such as a private residence or business, and not areas that are accessible to the general public, such as sidewalks, streets or the neighbours house.
NOTE: Camera height
In order to achieve optimal performance and coverage, it is advised to mount the camera at a specific height. This height is calculated by measuring 1495mm from the center point of the camera installation. As a result, the camera itself will be positioned at a height of 1600mm from the ground or reference point. This recommendation takes into consideration factors such as angle, perspective, and field of view, ensuring that the camera captures the desired area effectively and accurately.
3.3. Bracket / Box installation
3.3.1. With embedded junction box (86x86 mm)
Secure the wall-mounting box onto the embedded 86 box using two M4x30 crosshead screws, but do not tighten them firmly just yet, as you will be taking it down shortly.
Mark the four holes of the wall-mounting box onto the wall with a marker.
- Remove the M4x30 Screws and wall-mounting box from the wall.
- Use a hand-held drill fitted with a 6 mm diameter bit to drill holes into the wall at the marked locations.
Place the plastic wall anchors into the holes.
Securely attach the wall-mounting box using four ST4x20 Crosshead screws (Into the plastic anchor) and two M4x30 crosshead screws, then tighten them firmly.
3.3.2. Without embedded junction box
- First, mark the location and size of the holes needed for the wall-mounting box on the wall.
Then, use a hand drill with a 6 mm diameter bit to drill holes at the marked positions. When drilling, please take note of the relative position shown, and ensure that the maximum error does not exceed 5mm.
- Next, insert the plastic wall anchors into the holes that you have drilled previously.
- After that, attach the wall-mounting box using six ST4x20 Crosshead screws.
NOTE: Waterproofing. For wall-mounting installation, it is recommended to securely attach the wall-mounted bracket to the wall, ensuring that the EVA pasted on the bottom of the wall mounting bracket is close to the wall without any gaps. This is important to prevent water from entering the back cover of the intercom. Alternatively, you may use a rain cover for added protection.
3.3.3. Flush Mounted (Normal Installation)
Create a square hole that measures 314mm in height, 124mm in width, and 53mm in depth. It is important to note that the size of the hole should be slightly larger than the recommended value to ensure that all cables can fit.
Insert the flush-mounting box into the hole, ensuring that the device's cables can be routed through the cable hole. Next, mark the six holes of the flush-mounting box onto the wall.
- Remove the flush-mounting box from the wall, and then drill holes at the marked positions using a hand-held drill fitted with a 6mm diameter bit.
- Place the plastic anchors into the holes that you previously drilled.
- Insert the flush-mounting box into the square hole, ensuring that the edges align with the wall and that all cables go through the cable hole. Secure the flush-mounting box in place using six ST4x20 Crosshead screws.
Secure the flush-mounting bracket onto the flush-mounting box using M4x10 Crosshead screws.
NOTE: Waterproofing. For flush-mounting installation, it is recommended to fill any gaps around the embedded box to ensure waterproofing and prevent water from entering the back cover of the intercom through the gaps.
3.4. Wiring and wiring-cover installation (Waterproofing the connection)
IMPORTANT: This manual assumes that you have already installed the ST2029 Door central on the secure side and have pulled the CAT-6 intercom cable through the wall and wall-mounted box. Alternatively, if you have used the flush-mounted box, you have pulled the cables through the flush-mounting box and flush-mounting bracket. It is important to have completed these steps, as we will now be terminating the cable in the intercom while also installing the waterproofing wiring cover.
3.4.1. Wiring termination on the intercom side
- Before hanging the intercom, make sure to securely attach the sealing ring onto the device
- Use the provided installation rope to hang the device. This method is particularly useful for a one-person installation as it frees up your hands to work on the wiring.
Pull the cable through the wiring cover
USE ONLY THE FOLLOWING CABLE
Connect the cables in the following manner:
CAT 6 T568B REV 3:
Red = 12V
Black = PWR_GND
Blue = RS485A
Blue/White = RS485B
The ST2020 is connected to the ST2090 Door central using a CAT 6 cable wire in the following manner.
NOTE: Please note that there are other cable revisions available. For a comprehensive overview of all the different wiring schemes for both type 1 and type 2 door centrals for ST2020, please refer to the following article.
Pass the cables through the wiring cover and connect them to the corresponding interfaces on the main board as described in the instructions above. Next, select an appropriate size for the rubber plug to compress the cables and secure them in place. Once the cables are in place, fasten the sealing ring onto the intercom by pressing the plate and securing it with two ST1.7x4 crosshead screws.
- Use four pcs of M3x5 crosshead screws to fix the wiring cover.
3.5. Device mounting
Prior to mounting the device on the wall-mounting (or flush-mounting bracket.), take care to remove the sticker on the wall-mount box.
Insert the device into the wall-mounting box (or flush-mounting bracket), ensuring that the edges align with the wall. 1). Then, pull the device downwards and make sure that its groove securely hooks onto the lock catches of the back box. 2.) Secure the device in place using the two M3x6 hex screws and the Allen wrench provided.
